New Requirements for Surveillance Take Effect in NSW Workplaces

Corporate HR SolutionsWith the new Workplace Surveillance Act 2005 now beginning to take effect in all NSW workplaces, many employers remain unclear of what needs to be done to make sure their company or organisation complies with its expanded scope.

The new Act has substantially expanded the scope of workplace surveillance by including within its provisions surveillance in workplaces by means of computers and tracking devices. Employers also need to formally notify staff of surveillance processes operating in their workplace – even if surveillance is already being undertaken.

Beware of Seasonal Changes in OHS Requirements

Corporate HR SolutionsWith the summer season quickly approaching, companies responsible for the OHS of employees or contractors performing outdoors tasks within their workplace should ensure that processes are in place to deal with the issue of solar exposure.

For many areas of Australia, harmful ultraviolet (UV) reaches extreme levels during the hotter months, levels which translate into a steep increase in risk of occupational exposure to those needing to work out of doors such as maintenance staff or gardeners.
